“The key to liberation resides within our very own hands and heart.”
― Julie R. Schelling
Remember in the old Star Trek show when Captain Kirk would inevitably ask the engineer Mr. Scott for more power for the Enterprise? There’s a time for rest and a time for work and action and at times all of us need to power-up, kick in the Warp Drive engines and get ourselves moving! Many of us turn to coffee for such times. The caffeine found in coffee is a stimulant. It helps improve brain activity, concentration, and sharpness of focus however there are healthier alternatives. Alternatives to coffee for caffeine include:
Dark chocolate (in moderation), Black Tea, Guarana Berry, Matcha Tea, and Loose Leaf Green Tea. Green Tea has many additional benefits besides added energy. It includes a powerful amino acid L-theanine which you can get at your health food or dietary supplement store. This amino acid helps facilitate the neurotransmitter called GABA which is known to reduce anxiety. It also boosts dopamine which is the feel-good hormone.
Healthy Energy Chews are a great solution to boost your energy during the day! Each Energy Chew (Click the link to try some!) delivers a scientific blend of caffeine from natural green tea extract, plus L-tyrosine, L-theanine, B vitamins, and vitamin D. And there are no artificial flavors, sweeteners or added preservatives you’ll find in other energy products.
Another way to energize yourself is to do focused breathing exercises. One breathes in deeply for a count of four then holds the breath to the count of four then exhales to the count of six having one’s exhale slowing down one’s breathing. This oxygenates the brain and body. If you’re ever really tired and need not to be, try this for 20 reps and see how you feel.
Do some energy boosting exercises during the day. This video refers to the morning but we can do these anytime.
Take time to get up from your desk and stretch your hands above your head. You can even do it seated but if possible stand up. This body language conveys a feeling to the brain that we are victorious and happy and creates a positive energy. Try it! For a “level-up” to this Mindhack exclaim “Yes!” or “Alright!!!” or “WhooHoo!” it will make you smile and maybe even laugh a bit and that too tells your brain to release the positive feel good brain chemicals that increase energy and positive feelings.
